During the Photoszene-Festival, a series of photographers present their photographic work and ideas behind their book projects in presentations and book signings.

German photographer Michael Danner in conversation with Damian Zimmermann (Photoszene) about his book “Migration as Avant-Garde”. The dummy was awarded 1^st prize at Fotobookfestival Kassel. His winning book is being produced and published by Kettler Verlag until the end of 2018.

In his photographic work “Migration as Avant-Garde”, Michael Danner investigates the new ways taken by migrants in the hope of a better life. As he does so, the photographer reveals the actors that constitute migration and influence it in various ways by capturing, preventing, channelling or humanizing it. Danner’s photographs are juxtaposed with citations from the political theorist Hannah Arendt and historical visual documents of refugees from public archives, along with UNO satellite images from crisis regions that illustrate the spectrum of actors and are interwoven to form an overall system. Book presentation and book signing with the photographer Ulrich Wüst, with the support of Rolf Sachsse.
Ulrich Wüst, the East German photographer, known through his participation in Documenta 2017, has portrayed Cologne in his unmistakable style. Oscillating between his artist book and architectural photography, he devotes himself to the places of the city which are less well-known.

The footage is supplemented by a text by Rolf Sachsse, which puts Wüst in the context of Cologne and the objective-artistic photography as well as a short essay by the photographer and a tribute by Hanns Zischler.
