Work in the media? With images? Films? Experiments? Then you’re in the right place with us at photokina. Here, the new media contests are announced and the German Youth Photo Award 2018 is presented. The year’s theme was “Me and the World”. You can meet the award-winners at the award ceremony on Friday evening, 28 September at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, 29 September, the winners of this year’s German Youth Photo Award will meet photography greats such as Erik Kessels, Fiona Tan, Sandra Stein and Peter Bitzer (Iaif Agentur für Photos & Reportagen).

In small groups, they will get to know the work of these greats, and there will be time left over to present and discuss their own works.

The German Youth Photo Award was established at photokina by the German Federal Youth Ministry in 1961 and is one of the most popular media contests in Germany. 20,000 photos were sent in this year. At photokina, the contest showcases the highlights and current trends on the young photography scene with the jury’s chosen works. The exhibition’s themes are “Me and the World  – Selfies and Self-Representations”, “Imaging & Experiments” and “Free Choice of Theme”. Distinctions of a total value of 13,000 Euro await the more than 30 award-winners – children, youths and young adults up to 25 years of age. In addition: Visitors can choose their favourites and win prizes.

Organizer: Deutsches Kinder- und Jugendfilmzentrum
