Peter Gowland’s Girls is devoted to the American photographer Peter Gowland (1916 – 2010). He photographed young women in glamour and pin-up style in and around Los Angeles from 1946. Right at the start of his career the New York Times described him in 1954 as “America’s No. 1 Pin-up Photographer” and located his images “somewhere between seduction and art”.

The exhibition presents around 200 works that have been selected from Gowland’s estate, including numerous vintage prints

Finally, in Amsterdam, she became a master photographer, even before she succeeded in making a new start in the 1950s following persecution as a Jew and survival in hiding.
