During the festival period, our 5 partner establishments are offering a range of public tours of their photography exhibitions.
All holders of this year’s *Photoszene Festival Pass* will get reduced-price admission to the relevant museum on presentation at the ticket office.
Friday, 21 September
Where: MAKK – Museum of Applied Arts Cologne
Peter Gowland’s Girls is devoted to the American photographer Peter Gowland (1916 – 2010). He photographed young women in glamour and pin-up style in and around Los Angeles from 1946. Right at the start of his career the New York Times described him in 1954 as “America’s No. 1 Pin-up Photographer” and located his images “somewhere between seduction and art”.
The exhibition presents around 200 works that have been selected from Gowland’s estate, including numerous vintage prints

Public guided tour: "Doing the Document"

Diane Arbus, Karl Blossfeldt, Walker Evans, Lee Friedlander, August Sander, Tata Ronkholz, Albert Renger-Patzsch, Garry Winogrand, Piet Zwart and ten more positions – all these photographers share a documentary/artistic approach that is presented and simultaneously questioned with Doing the Document. This exhibition owes its existence to a donation of over two hundred works by German and American photographers by the Bartenbach family of Cologne.

Public guided tour: "Eva Besnyö - Photograper Budapest, Berlin, Amsterdam",
Start: 5 pm
Where: Käthe Kolwitz Museum Köln
Neumarkt Passage, Neumarkt 18-24, 50667 Cologne
Surprising light and unusual perspectives – the shots by Eva Besnyö (1910-2003) are fascinating. She acquired her technical tools of the trade in the Budapest studio of József Pésci. In the early 1930s, Berlin opened her eyes to the aesthetic of modern photography. Finally, in Amsterdam, she became a master photographer, even before she succeeded in making a new start in the 1950s following persecution as a Jew and survival in hiding. The KKMK is showing more than 80 original prints.
