When, in the mid-60s, Beatniks were proclaiming freedom of intellect and free love, John Chicago (alias Wolfgang Schulz) picked up his camera and began documenting his impressions of the societal changes. He understood little of technology. But he understood the magic of the moment all the more. And thus arose visual worlds that reflect the period’s unique feeling of being alive, when everything seemed possible. His Cibachromes from the 1970s celebrate the colourful hippie universe.
