The Only Male Geisha

For the first time, the MAKK presents a previously unpublished private collection. In a long-term project spanning several years, the two artists Hans Diernberger and Will Saunders (both *1983) explore the diverse facets of Eitaro Matsunoya, Japan’s only male geisha. The outcome of their encounter with the perfectly staged art figure is presented in a multi-media installation that comprises specially filtered photographs, video works and a sound layer featuring the sounds of Japanese instruments and everyday noises.
