Kassel Photobook Award

Since 2008 KASSEL PHOTOBOOK AWARD is asking experts to name their favorite photobook of the previous year and to justify their choice. This has resulted in around 30 books every year from renowned jurors from all over the world. The books showcase the current state of play in a medium that is incredibly lively and mobile. At the time, we thought we were at a culmination point. Today it feels more like the medium is just being discovered.

Kassel Dummy Award

The KASSEL DUMMY AWARD is the dummy competition for the best unpublished photobook mock-up of the year. Together with our cooperation partner Verlag Kettler, the festival invites all photographers worldwide to take part. 50 books will be selected for the shortlist and exhibited in Kassel and at other international photo events. 3 winners will be chosen by an international jury. The winner of the First Prize will be produced and published by Kettler, Germany.

The winning book is produced and published by co-operation partner Kettler publishers, Germany. This year’s winner Michael Danner talks about his photobook “MIGRATION AS AVANT-GARDE” on Saturday, 22 September at 4 p.m. at a book presentation in conversation with Damian Zimmermann (Photoszene) at MAKK - Museum of Applied Arts Cologne.

The most recent finalists were Hugo Alcol, in 2017, with his photographic study Archipelago, and Mathieu Asselin, in 2016, with Monsanto – A Photographic Investigation.
